so yeah so it's been a really big full day and as if though i didn't have enough going on so we had
this really amazing um zoom call with my workshop
students and just a really great great conversation
which by the way there are still three available kits for the april
workshop so if you are interested um let me know you can um you can text
me actually and um and because i don't think that i have
the product actually live on the site i'm not 100 sure but anyway so yeah so
and then i i got off that zoom i went into the house i cooked some salmon
and i had some cappellini noodles um with a little avocado sauce have you
ever done that before where you take the avocado and you smush it and then you put some olive oil and seasonings on it
and then you mix it in with your capolini noodles it is divine and of course i'm a
calamati olive yeah i'm just in love with calamari
olives so there was a little calamari well there was a lot and of course um some parmesan cheese
and so i had dinner marlon brando had dinner of course he had to have some of my salmon
my bougie little dog and um and i thought for a hot minute i was
just gonna like call it a night and then i was like no i feel the urge
to get on and um and do you know do a demo and talk about
the new deluxe starter kit that i'm super excited about so i really um
you know i love showing the uh the art of weaving
and i really um you know that's why i developed and invented the jewel loom
the original jewel loom right here so that people could try it out at a
reasonable um cost and see if it was something that they wanted to add to
their creative arsenal and so obviously as we know many many
people all over the world have and i thought you know what how cool would it be to put together a starter kit
um with some beads and the needles and everything that you would need and then
of course i was like well you can't have the mama right without having the little
baby jewel loom so i threw that in so this is an amazing deluxe
jewel loom starter kit you've got your original jewel loom your baby jewel loom
your jewel loom needles um well the beads are on the table already so you get a bunch of beads
and you get your um daisy let me bring this in your daisy button
which huge shout out to my niece who just turned two years old yesterday i can't even
believe it so happy birthday daisy amazing yes that is her first and middle
name isn't that so adorable so daisy amazing she actually um figured out how
to blow and was able to blow out one of her candles and so i just thought that was incredibly precious but um yeah so major
big time big time shout out there hi everyone hello beautiful
oh miss mcdonald um but yeah so i put together the
starter kit um with the hopes that it would you know be just what you needed again there's a hundred beads whoops
and so i actually made this bracelet with the beads that come in the kit
and i was thinking too you could totally make an anklet i mean how much fun would that be we've got the
summer coming up right so you can make a cute little anklet this is one of the charms from the um
charm kits so a lot of possibilities and my new
favorite oh my gosh i didn't you know i thought i was being a little on the edge when i um
made these rings because they are look at them
look at it's all about the pinky is that so stinking cool but when i was making them i thought well
is that going to be uncomfortable with the six millimeter glass bead
and guess what it's totally not like it's so comfortable so comfortable i
mean look at these can you see them i don't know which camera is better let me see if i come over here
is that amazing i just love it i wore it um i wore all
of my blue this weekend and i love it and they're just super super comfortable so i i surprised
myself because i thought oh i wonder if that's not going to be very comfortable and
it was and it is okay so hey melanie
oh no honey yeah okay well we can talk about that
for sure so i don't know how to enunciate zakiyah
am i remotely close i have no idea is the z
is the z silent um it's beautiful whatever it is it's beautiful so
but and i only you know what i actually and i'm not even kidding um so for those of
you that remember me from elene's creative living i actually was sent to
um voice school and um and so when i was living in lombok
california i used to drive all the way to the valley in california for voice
lessons and not to learn how to sing because mama cannot hold a note but to enunciate
so my um i spent a lot of my beginning years out at the ranch with my
portuguese grandparents and so i still to this day it's not as bad
but um enunciating sh so i i know you've told me before honey
and so shaquit shaquisha right didn't get it
right should we see it's all it gets so mumbled in my mouth and i don't mean to
be disrespectful because you know i love you um but but there are certain words and
so yeah and so they sent me to like to voice school to learn how to enunciate and so it kind of worked and
then in some cases it just still didn't but at least you know it's coming from my
heart i do try i do try so anyway
aw awesome okay so listen um one of the things that i think people really you know when
they're putting together the loom i really really really cannot say it enough you need to remember that the
jewel loom is is a flexible plastic okay it's not bendable
it's flexible and so anytime we're dealing with it when we're warping with it when we're putting the rod in when
we're taking the rod out we really need to remember that it is flexible
not bendable and so i think um sometimes people might do their warps a little too
tight maybe they struggle with the rod but we're going to talk about that right now and so in fact let's see if we can't
um we're going to remove part of me so that we can have a whole screen
here awesome so when i work with my jewel bloom i work with it in the up and down position
here and we'll just say that these grooves are closest to my body
and the top grooves are furthest away from my body okay
and the metal rod that comes with your loom is bent so that the ends will go into
the hole and stay there so that you can get a really great warp that's a whole part of the jewel loom and why the warp
is so great um every once in a while you might find and if you buy a jewel loom
directly from me i do adjust all the metal rods before they ship out
um but sometimes what happens is that they might be in just a little too much
and it's ever so slightly okay and so that's why i inspect each and every one
before it actually leaves my um my place here my shop
so what i'm going to do is i'm going to take the end of the rod and put it into the
bottom hole that's closest to my body okay and then i'm going to
straighten the rod out and very carefully i'm going to
bring the top part of the loom up and then snap that rod in okay
now when i go to remove the rod for instance say it doesn't want to come out like
right now i can tell it doesn't want to come out the same way that i put it in turn it around
shift that tension and i'm going to stand up because this
is why god gave me my belly i'm convinced right and it pops right out
so don't ever struggle with it if it's not coming out shift it just turn it around shift that
tension okay so what we're going to do next is i'm
going to turn the loom over and there is some hemp that comes in
your starter kit and i'm going to take that hemp and i'm just going to make a little loop in the
air i love love love love love warping with him it makes your projects
i think just so much easier but you know it definitely is a different look so you know with your
beading thread you get a more fine um look
with your hemp you get a little bit more organic i would like to say i don't know
i love it it just makes life easier [Laughter] so what i'm going to do next um is i'm
going to start to warp but i want to point something out to you
so there is let me see let me see if i can bring this up to the camera over here
so my knot is right in this area and it's going to be facing me
and why is that so important when i start to pull and warp i don't
want any looseness right i don't want the warp or the knot to shift and then i
lose the tension on my warp so always make sure that the knot
is facing you that it is following you as you are warping you don't want it
to slide around okay so i'm going to lay that down
turn the loom all the while i have the tension i'm just gonna eyeball it some people
like to count i just eyeball okay i'm laying the hemp down into the grooves
and i'm gonna be skipping three so that those six millimeter round beads will fit in between the warps
so i'm going to turn the limb over wrap it around the back button here's where some people
make a little boo-boo right they also wrap around this little guy
the back side of the metal rod that's gonna totally mess up your warps because when
you take out your rod what's gonna happen your warps are going to be loose
so make sure you're only going around the back of the button so i'm going to count let's see one two
three okay and then i'm going to lay the hemp down and i'm going to come back up
okay flip it over and you see that i'm not
there's no waste right that was part of the invention that's part of my patent
is that the buttons eliminate that waste where in some looms you're
going around and around and around and now all of this is just wasted
and who doesn't need a couple extra bucks for a gallon these days huh
we were like we were having a good time with that earlier i my mindset is
i get to pay whatever it is that's costing that's costing us per
gallon right now so we're going to change our mindset because i i want to beat the pump up
but i've decided to to turn it around and be positive i get to pay
xyz a gallon i know you think i'm crazy but it helps all right so i'm just gonna
wrap the hemp around the back button there the other reason why i love working with the hemp
is that um it just snugs in it snugs in really nice and tight in the back there
okay so at this point i'm gonna grab my scissors
and i'm just gonna cut and i just need to tie this off
hopefully we're still live and everything is good again it's uh
trisha if you're still there maybe just let me know that i'm good
so trisha is one of the jewel loom influencers she's a designer jewelry designer and she's going to be on this
thursday normally it's both her and amber but this thursday it'll just be her at four
o'clock pacific time seven o'clock east coast time and she is
going to um you still i think she still have another
pair of earrings to make if i'm not mistaken so yeah so check it out look at here's the warps all right now this is
the magic part okay the rod needs to come out um
no matter what you've seen out there listen to the jewel mama all right so
i'm going to stand up again i'm going to um use that that body
that belly that god gave me and i'm going to put in fact i'm going to come to this camera i'm going to take my
pointer i'm going to lay that on top of the warps okay
and then i'm going to take the other hand and
okay i can kind of see it's not going to want to come out so i'm going to turn it around remember shift the tension
and poof all right so just remember that because again this is a flexible plastic not a bendable
plastic so there i mean listen okay julian's got the best work around check it out
right so stinking cool so that's what you want your loom to look like that's what whether using hemp
or you're using beading thread you're going to have this incredible little
strum that's when you know you've got good warp and hey usually what happens is
that people lose the tension on their first warp and that
is why that knot not having any looseness back here is so important and
keeping the tension the whole entire time that you're warping and don't get discouraged just play
around with it okay if you don't get it right the first time try again but there we go there's our warp
and now i'm going to bring in my other loom
so i've got one over here and again you are going to get some hemp in that kit um
it'll match it'll be something pretty i don't do and i don't do things that are not pretty
[Laughter] so um so it'll be a pretty color of hemp it'll
be one millimeter because i think that's just a really awesome um hemp to uh size to start with okay so i
gotta oh my gosh have you all seen this big chair my dad bought me it's like hysterical um when we come back to a
full screen i'll i'll show too it's like i feel like lily tomlin if you don't
know who lily is she used to sit in a big chair and it was just so funny okay
let me back up because i'm getting too excited okay so let's get
let's get positioned here i want to make sure i'm in the camera okay so again the jewel loom
is in front of me and i like to work with it in this
up and down position okay if i'm not mistaken um miss tricia will
at times work from side to side i taught a class a few classes at jewelry television during their big
event and people were working in all directions you know sometimes they were like this
sometimes they were doing it like me sometimes side to side you're gonna get to the same place and whatever is most
comfortable for you is what's important okay so i've already attached my beading
thread here to the hemp just um a little knot okay i've got the needle and the
thread i'm using wildfire by the way and um i've got the needle and the
thread in my left hand and i'm going to pass that underneath
the warps to my right hand and now i'm going to pick up three beads
so if you noticed we created four warps one two three four warps because you
always need one more warp than the beads you're going to weave across
and in this project i'm going to weave three beads okay so i just picked up three beads
i'm going to let those fall okay then i take my
hand and i help to get them into the grooves into the warps i mean
okay and now i'm taking the needle and the thread and i'm going back through
the hole and my needle is gliding on top
so i'm gonna bring that back down i'm going
to pull the thread and i take my time all right and you may have noticed
that the um you know the loom moves so
it is extremely lightweight it is made out of plastic it is shiny um it was never intended to be a super
heavy weight loom that will stay idle it's got a little wiggle like it's mama okay so
what can you do about that you can work on a non-skid surface you could
certainly take blue tape if it bothers you you know and you could double sticky it down
um there's a couple different suggestions but you should just know that i mean it just and and what i have
learned is i've always got a hand on the loom to keep it in place
all right so we're going to come back under and i'm gonna pick up
one let's see what i want to do this time oh let's get this guy
two and um we'll do one of these okay again i'm just gonna let those drop
and you can see how i'm feeding the thread and then i come over here and then watch
how i watch how i secure the loom okay so the flat part of my hand is down on the loom keeping it as still
as possible taking the needle going back through the hole making sure
the needle is gliding on top of the warps
if you're not on top of the warps your beads will fall off okay and then i'm always
you know and i don't do you see how it just consciously you know or subconsciously i've just obviously over
the years learned how to it's just like this little dance
all right so there's always one hand keeping the jewel loom um as still as possible
so again we're gonna come under the warps transfer the needle to my right
hand and i'm going to pick up three beads
oh and i haven't used look at this pretty pink one so gorgeous and then a light blue
and again i'm just gonna let those fall
okay i'm securing can you see that how i'm using my hand to keep the loom secure
yeah sticky bean mat helps a lot it really does yeah if that's something you know
um that will help you then by all means you should do that i work on the bead mat
and then i just have this dance with my hands to go back and forth
to hold it now you see how i'm always kind of like watching um the beads and i don't ever
want there to be like excess thread on the side so i'm constantly monitoring
not constantly but with every row i just you know i'm adjusting i'm making sure there's
nothing loose so again we're going to come under
and okay it looks like i could do crystal and let's do
one of these guys and the blue
and then we're gonna let this fall frozen linda rosa linda
and then we're going to take the needle and we're going back through
the beads once you get your groove man you can whip these up super quick
all right you could probably get this done within a half an hour so it's not going to be like an
extremely time consuming project um
and gosh there's just so much what are we we're already at the end of april i
don't even know time anymore it's so crazy all right what do i want oh i haven't
used one let's do one of these this is probably the hardest part right picking out which bead you want to use
um okay let's do one of these
okay again we're gonna let this fall
oh how did i get two greens oh that's so funny okay i don't want two greens so watch what i'm gonna do here
very carefully i'm going to take those off
i don't have to rethread my needle if i'm careful awesome okay
i don't know how that happened okay one
i just saw a bead i wanted come on little guy okay now there we go
and we're gonna pop them up
straighten the row out and you'd see it's just so it's such a
soulful dance you know that's um one of the things i love about beading
it's calming you know it just um i don't know i just i love the art of
weaving it's just so peaceful
so again this is from the new deluxe starter kit
the jewel loom the baby jewel loom six jewel loom needles 100 beads
uh baltic birch wooden button with the daisy engraved
um what did i say three yards of hemp so yeah i mean and such a great deal i'm
pretty sure i priced it at 24.99 right is that what i did [Laughter]
it's it's a it's a great great deal because i want you to try weaving i want
you to do it and i don't want you to you know it's always great when you could try something new and you don't have to
spend too too much right or maybe you're already weaving and you just need a great gift i mean think about this for
the summer right you got all the teachers um
yeah yeah that's so funny i love that trisha
well you know how i mean my um when my portuguese grandma passed away oh my
gosh i just couldn't so i stayed up until like three o'clock
in the morning beating a bracelet on a loom that represented all the different
colors that reminded me of her and i mean really it just it got me through
them you know through the night because i was just devastated
and um and so you know it's just it's just peaceful if you've never tried
it we have so much support um there's a facebook group there's a
texting community and trust me um you know people people use that number
[Laughter] hey jules i got a question
okay show me a picture you know and it's just really a lot of fun because i'm really i'm really a hands-on um
teacher business owner okay seriously what is going on with this little bead right here it doesn't wanna okay it's
plus shipping i think it's just a great a great little um
intro kit and a great way to learn how to weave and or share your passion for weaving
with somebody so if you have a friend it's a great way to get started
haha thanks rosalinda yeah we have a um monthly workshop that i
just i say we because i don't it's like it's so cute right it's like there's a
hundred of me i feel like there's a hundred of me because just have like the best the best students the best everything
um but yeah once a month i teach a um a course
using one of the jewel looms typically you can always use your blue jewel loom your
we've got the new looms too we've got the small wisdom warrior we have the large wisdom warrior and
then we just introduced a um the silver silk loom which is
fabulous if you're using the lace silver silk chain
so a lot of options okay these pink beads are trying to like escape from my needle it's so funny every time i go to
get one there you go i got you um
oh i swear the hardest part is picking out which color bead you want there we go
yes i'm here i'm alive so if you didn't hear i got to spend
four amazing days um with my son um this is the one
millimeter hemp yeah i like the thicker hem one millimeter yeah
so i had not seen josh since november of 2019
and um and then of course as we all know it you know the world happened
and uh and so we were like oh my gosh we haven't seen each other in like two
years so he was out in palm springs doing some business and um surprised me and um and so i went
and picked him up and we got to spend four days together and it was just divine i can't even
begin to tell you it was just really really a great four days with my kid
so mama's happy very happy happy mama
and uh he is doing so well he is just so incredibly intelligent and um
so savvy with all these new things going on in um you know the
crypto world but he's um really focused on nfts and and don't ask
me to explain it i will try to would it non non-fun
non-function what is it called what's the middle one somebody look it up non-functional
tokens non-fungal tokens i don't know it's so weird it's art so i'm intrigued
um but yeah it's just so funny
yeah i know that's awesome that your daughter lives nearby well josh is still in jersey and you
know i i came back home um several several years ago now to california
and um and so you know my dreams always been to to be
bicoastal so i'm still working on that
oh okay where are they telling you yeah it's really um
i just i would totally take a course like if i could just find that person
who knows how to talk to um somebody josh does a good job at
explaining but i'm also trying to figure out like if because i did secure jewel loom dot
nft for whatever reason um and so i'm trying to learn what that
even means for me because i don't know and he'll you know and of course he's
like well da da da da da da i'm like oh my gosh i don't even know what da da da
so oh okay tools cannot talk and beat at the same time thank goodness these guys just roll
but i do find all of that very fascinating and i do think it's good to learn you know things so
um this is actually one of the jewel loom needles so it's a longer needle
it's just about three inches long um gosh what size you know we've never
talked about that you know a lot of people will use like what like 11 or a 12 they're short i i
can't even begin to use those anymore but um this is a very long thin needle and it's
the jewel loom needle okay i gotta take a moment here to see
what i got left see how this is coming to get i mean i'm gonna come up to the camera we'll
look it so just in that time frame how long have we been on
let me see if i can't um scroll over here when did we oh is it telling me anything i can't
tell oh 35 minutes but i had a lot of chatter in the beginning so
yeah so yeah if you're not talking and trying to demo and and everything else then i
yeah it's all my it's all mind-boggling all those words are mind-boggling but
i'm afraid if we don't learn it then we're going to be left out
so yeah so this is um this is a very easy
way to get a very gorgeous piece of jewelry
completed in a short period of time and especially if you're doing any um
boutiques this summer or if you just want that matching jewelry for
your vacation or whatever you may be doing
i always wear my jewelry okay what color do it say i'm getting
down to the base to the end here now and i'm like okay what happened i used
to go with another green one oh that's my last green one oh i feel like i better hold on to that
so every mix of 100 beads is different um but it's all the colors that you see
me using here so they're just really fun fun summertime colors
yeah it's super pretty and it's just a fun a fun bracelet
um the instructions are available um jewel loomschool.com
you'll go to how to use um your jewel loom and it's on the
awareness beaded cuff and so those instructions are going to get you
started and finished on this beautiful bracelet isn't that great
so i'm going to get my i'm going to pull my finished one in here i love i love stacking this because it
just looks so pretty so like i'll wear um another bracelet with this
and of course my pinky my pinky rings aren't those cool and you could stack
them and there's instructions on how to make the rings too we have a lot of
a lot of support with that is that so stinking cool
and it's really cool right so
fun fun i'm gonna come back up now and see if we've got any um any questions
let me see let me add myself i don't know that light is like so
bright it's like in one shot i have like blonde hair and another shot and got like really white hair
it's so funny oh my goodness well i hope everyone is doing well i hope that you're taking
advantage of all of the different education that we have so again we've got the free
facebook group it's called jewelry making with jewel loom jewelry making with jewel
loom that's on facebook it is a private group so you just have to ask to join
and um then there's the jewel loom page
on facebook there's the jewel loom instagram and um
and there is the jewel loom youtube channel which many of you are watching
from right now so that's awesome so lots of education and then in the jewel loomschool.com
that's where the content lives and if you click on how to use
whatever loom you have purchased from me there's going to be instructions so that's really great and um all of
that lives on a very user-friendly platform that um
there's actually an app as well that you can download so really cool stuff um
i need long ones you need long needles so yolanda if you're looking for the
jewel loom needles they're in the jewelroom.com shop and bugle beads absolutely
yes oh no one that's cool i'm just glad okay
i'll yes open it up elizabeth
yeah very cool very cool yeah i'm glad this inspired
you you know it doesn't have to be difficult right it just weaving can it's
look i mean it's basic right you have warps that go straight up and down
and then when you're weaving or also known as wefts
right that are going side to side
everything else is just the extra right it's just the
extra fun mixing up the beads how many warps you know so um and what you're using
so it doesn't have to be difficult at all it's it's rather i don't know it's just so calming
and i obviously needed some sort of calming because i was like maybe that salmon and avocado did it
got me all loom frisky [Laughter]
anyway okay well we've been on for almost 45 minutes now i'm just kind of scanning to
see if i missed any missed any questions
but we would love love love oh and hey listen let me see if i can't get the um text
that number where did it go here we go
so um that's the phone number
805-768-0568 that is the texting community um that's not no that's not the
sms or email that is a educational community
customer service number so
it's free right so we cover everything as long as you have a texting plan
um and when you join basically you're just a part of the
community and not not um let me see this when i text you
or i text the community it's private to each person your response to me or your
original text to me is private it's not going out to like everybody it's all
private i the baby loom is such a great place to
start the baby loom is awesome because the warp is already in place right so there's no fussing with the
metal rod it's just that it's smaller so it's great if you want to do rings or pendants
you could do like up to a six inch um bracelet if you had a smaller wrist
but yeah i love the baby loom it's awesome especially to travel with like if you're doing anything in the summer
you could just like put the baby loom in your purse and
and and go go go ah well you made me happy that you're here and you showed up and you watched so
appreciative of your time so appreciative of your time oh good you get the text
yeah and i'm not yolanda you can attest to this i don't do like i'm not crazy
texter if i text it's for a reason absolutely you can use leather yep you
can use leather you can use hemp you can use beading thread you can use wire
um you can use sorry ribbon you can shred your old
jeans that's hot okay i will tell you
when you are doing something like that you do leave the rod in
because the jean material the cotton material the flimsy materials right they don't
have any oomph so you would keep the rod in to keep
the shape of the loom but that's so cool i where is that piece
i made on my hook you know it might still be on a loom somewhere i should get that out
yes sweet dreams rosalinda um yeah so you can use
i always say if it's not moving it's fair game
yes jean scraps i mean you could just do some really
cool stuff like what a great way to just i mean you know how people do like the
quilts right well you could take the same concept and then you know
downsize it but yeah that's really fun i love to do that plus it's you know it's a recycling
