i'm glad you're all here with me today so i am gonna go ahead here before we
0:06
waste too much time with me gavin i am going to
0:11
um turn the camera down here and then we
0:17
will get started on our project hi becky
0:25
okay see how i do here
0:33
sorry bright light bright light so i think that's where i want it i just
0:40
lifted up a smidge a little bit more this way yes sorry
0:45
guys i think this that i just have one camera but that is
0:50
the brakes so i'm just gonna share this a couple places and then we're gonna get started
0:56
here everybody out there if you want to share
1:02
for us as well we always appreciate that if you can share the broadcast with your
1:08
friends don't forget to do that for us and there you go okay so as i said today we're going to
1:16
be using soft flex this is pretty exciting guys it was so fun to work with too this is actually come from
1:23
one of our jewel loom girls here that suggested has anyone ever tried soft
1:28
flex on the jewel loom so i can't take credit for coming up with the idea but i did make the project
1:35
so we are going to be using let me go over the materials first here
1:41
we're going to be using some soft flex this is 0.019 that's the diameter this is a 30 foot
1:47
roll so your basic soft flex oh soft flex company is here hi guys
1:54
um so we're going to be using that that's a very important element of course we're going to be using our beadalon wildfire
2:03
and we're going to be using some beautiful pyramid beads from jewloom.com
2:10
and some beautiful 11 00 seed beads from jewelum.com
2:15
we also have some artistic wire and 20 gauge that we're going to use to make our tassel and the tassels on these ones
2:21
guys i made with leather but i'm going to be actually using hemp cord to make these ones because i'm actually out of
2:27
this color leather so i thought let's play around with some hemp too while we have the
2:33
chance but as far as that these pyramids if i didn't mention it guys these are six
2:38
millimeter for this project that i'm using oh good melanie has a lot of soft flex
2:45
that's always a good thing to have a lot of and they and and it does come in so many beautiful colors guys so
2:52
you could the sky's the limit basically is what i'm trying to say okay good thank you so much amber for
2:59
doing that so first of course we're gonna start here i'll show you the earrings too if you didn't see them in the
3:06
in the picture for the broadcast but there is
3:12
what they look like this is thomas okay
3:17
awesome hi thomas so nice to see you here from softflex so we're going to start
3:24
by uh warping our loom and i have the original jewel loom here that is what
3:29
i'm using with my soft flex i have not tried any of the wood looms yet guys so we'll see what comes from that but for
3:35
right now i'm going to do it on the original loom you could also use the baby loom
3:41
i like to use the original loom because i have i like to have enough of the soft flex that i can crimp it off easily and
3:48
not be struggling for the cords okay and there's my friend genie hi genie you
3:54
didn't even get to see but i have what your necklace on one of your necklaces you made me on you'll see at the end
3:59
so this is of course where i am and my belly and everything's down this way and i'm just
4:05
going to take the bottom of the loom and i'm going to put it into the belly into my belly my buddha belly
4:13
and just give it a slight little flex i'm going to put my bar in the bottom i know you guys can't
4:18
see this so let me move it just a smidge there we go i'm going to put my bar in
4:23
the bottom and i'm just going to give this loom just a little flex again guys i know i remind you every
4:30
week but this the original jewel loom is flexible not
4:35
bendable guys so don't go too crazy out there so
4:40
then we're just going to take our roll of soft flex open that up and i'm going to leave it on the roll like we do with
4:46
our hemp and i'm just going to unroll a little bit of it
4:51
i'm going to turn my loom over and what's so awesome about softflex is
4:57
that you can tie it right on to your loom guys it's just perfect
5:03
so i go around twice and i'm just going to make a double knot here on the back
5:09
it's basically the same as we do with our hemp okay there's a good knot there and then
5:15
i'm gonna come in and tie another one trying to keep the tension on the knot
5:20
that i have there and pull okay so it's on there
5:27
it's on there very well as a matter of fact so i'm going to turn the loom over
5:33
and i'm going to smudge i'm going to put that lay that
5:38
into one of our grooves on the end and then i'm going to pull that across keeping tension
5:45
and i'm going to lay that in approximately the same groove across the other side then i'm going to flip over
5:53
slightly my loom and i'm going to keep tension you can see how i'm pulling there
5:58
on the subflex as i'm going around that knob and i'm pulling that up
6:04
we're going to skip three spaces for our six millimeter pyramid beads
6:09
so there's one two and three and then i'm just going to keep that
6:15
tension going pulling that across and we're gonna skip one two and three
6:23
on this side slightly turning it over grabbing that knob
6:29
keeping the tension coming back over the top
6:35
and leaving the three spaces again make sure one two three okay good
6:41
you know how my eyes are with the groove sometimes guys so i'm keeping that tension again guys that's so important
6:47
for our newbies you want to make sure you are definitely keeping tension when you are
6:53
crea or um warping your looms two three and we're just gonna keep doing that
7:00
until we get three across so that's if we have three across we know
7:05
we always have one more warp than we do beats so if i want to do three warps if
7:12
i want to do three rows then i'm gonna have four warps okay
7:18
so we're on three so this will be our last one here and i'm just again going to
7:25
skip three just making sure one two and three perfect
7:31
and again keeping that tension going across and skipping three
7:37
okay and now i'm going to take that around the back and hook on that knob again guys all this time i'm keeping my
7:44
tension wind that around a couple times two to three times and then what i like to do
7:49
is i take my finger just like i do with my hem and i just press it down there on that
7:55
piece that we have the tension on okay and then i just take my clippers
8:01
my my wire cutters and snip off my soft flex
8:09
and now that we have this this has the tension on it we can take this other string that we have here
8:14
and we can tie these two off all right aw thank you so much softflex thomas
8:22
we appreciate you thank you and then we're just going to tie that
8:28
put that tension nice and tight and then give it another
8:36
tie off nice and tight okay so there we go we have our three rows
8:44
here and four warps because we're gonna do three rows of beads okay so now is the
8:50
point where you're gonna take your rod out and when you go to take your rod out you want to do basically backwards from
8:55
what we did at the beginning you want to push slightly into
9:00
your belly and just give this a little flex and then lift your bar out
9:06
so now we have nice tension on our soft flex and we'll be able to just
9:11
put our wefts in perfectly so guys i as i said i'm using wildfire
9:16
this is the color green you can use whatever color combinations you like i just thought it looked really nice with
9:22
that particular soft flex um i have some pink soft flex and turquoise back here in my studio that
9:30
you better bet i'm going to be making some some loom pieces with that oh sarah's here now too hi sarah
9:39
good good so then we're just gonna take our wildfire and we're gonna tie it off on
9:44
the left side as we always do okay i always come up on the loom
9:53
i always use this where the bar goes in i always use this little dot and i know that if i go
9:59
slightly above it that's going to give me enough room to groove with tying off my pieces or in this case crimping off my
10:06
pieces okay so i always just put it there and then i do two knots
10:14
and just tie that snug there it doesn't have to be crazy tight but just enough to hold it there
10:20
so then we're just going to here are little earrings we'll leave those up here
10:25
um i'm just going to start beading it's that simple i'm gonna pick up our pyramid beads now
10:33
guys when you're using pyramid beads you always want to make sure that you are going in the same hole in
10:41
each bead okay so what i mean by that is you want to go in the first
10:48
opening of this bead when you're doing it i work from the bottom up that makes more sense to me if i put it
10:55
in this the hole closest to me if you're working from the top down then
11:02
you probably want to do the opposite hole so i'm just going to put on our pyramids in that order because we have
11:08
to go through the same hole so then that way everything's going to be even so i'm just putting on my three pyramid
11:14
beads and you see what i mean there i want them all to be hanging just exactly the same
11:23
you have all descended on my video you were using soft flex blah blah yes sarah
11:28
we are i am using soft flex tonight this is totally a new thing and it is
11:34
completely awesome i'm loving it so i'm just gonna do as always guys i'm gonna feed my needle underneath my work
11:41
i have my beads on i drop those down and then i'm just going to pull that strand
11:47
through there i have two small pink tassels that are from jjb and i had no clue what i was
11:53
going to do with them there you go and then i'm just going to take my finger
11:58
and i'm going to balance those beads push them up through them balance them
12:04
with my finger then i'm just going to take my needle and i'm going to go around this last warp
12:10
make sure you're always outside of this last warp when you're when you're looming and then just run your needle
12:17
through your beads always making sure you can see the sign the shiny needle between the beads that it is over top of
12:25
your warps if you don't do it that way guys your beads will fall off
12:30
so we're just gonna give that a nice tug i'm gonna move this drink i have here so
12:36
we don't have any access i'm just going to give that a nice pull through
12:41
and you can see our beads are now hooked in there okay
12:47
so now we're going to do the next hole in those pyramid beads so we're going to sort of flip those down just to smidge
12:54
so we can get our needle to go through these holes now i don't know about you guys but
13:01
this is kind of a thorn in my side doing this i don't know why um especially on the last bead for some
13:07
reason i always tend to struggle with it as i'm doing now so i
13:12
have just learned that if i turn it on its side like so it goes in
13:18
much easier for myself and i don't have to struggle as much
13:24
trish is going to be the soft flex on tulum expert i don't know about that but
13:29
i sure enjoyed coming up with this project and the same thing guys outside of the
13:36
right or your outside of your last work okay
13:41
and again we're going through the bead holes again but we're going
13:47
back through over top of the works all right now we're going to do as you
13:52
can see here we have five rows in our earring
13:57
and then we'll do our stitch on the outside um and i am also guys this is just a quick
14:04
little teaser we're going to be making our tassel tonight too hopefully we have enough time so i don't want to gab too
14:09
much so but um there is a new tassel maker that jules has come out with and we're going
14:16
to play with that a little bit so the same thing i'm picking up my beads
14:22
in that first hole so they're all hanging the same direction okay
14:31
and again underneath i usually hold my beads in my hand and i hold my needle at the same time when i put them on a lot
14:37
of people will drop them clear down that's your preference guys whatever works best for you
14:43
and then i just sort of run the string and the beads through my fingers underneath
14:48
and then i just again i'm just taking my pyramid beads and using my index finger on my left
14:56
hand and pushing those up through i'm on the outside
15:01
of this last warp with my string and the same thing we're going to go
15:08
through the same hole over top of the works now
15:14
so you go through each pyramid bead hole twice but you have to to lock them in
15:20
correctly okay so again i'm just going to tip these down just a smidge
15:28
and i'm for myself i'm going to turn this on its side to be able to see
15:34
a little better i'm getting my needle through that second set of holes and it will work for
15:40
me if i just get everything straight there we go and the last one
15:48
maybe it's just me but that's always been um a thorn in my side for some reason so
15:56
same thing guys we locked now we're almost completely have this pyramid the
16:01
second line of pyramid beads completely locked in so again we're just on the outside and
16:07
we're going to take our needle and go across
16:13
this is a very simple earring it i think between the soft flex and the
16:18
beads that i used how it looks pretty high-end and especially with the leather tassel
16:24
um but yeah i mean it just i think that the soft flex and and also those beads
16:31
elevated it just from being a simple pyramid project so here i am again i'm
16:37
gonna pick up three more beads
16:44
love those pyramid beads antique brass soft flex and green thread is a nice combo thank you so much i thought they
16:50
worked perfectly together and like i said guys this is only the beginning the
16:55
sky's the limit with the colors that softlex has so i have my turquoise in my pink as i
17:02
said that i am just itching to make into something it does and it looks
17:08
so complicated no it's not but that's what we like those are the projects we like they look
17:15
complicated but they're not really complicated oh that final design gorgeous thank you
17:21
kristin you're here too now hold the whole gang's here
17:26
that's pretty awesome but it is really very easy yes
17:36
totally yes for sure guys so we're just gonna continue with this we're gonna do five rows before we start
17:44
our um stitch on the other side or on the outside excuse me our seed
17:52
beads just again i'm gonna have to turn this
17:58
hey whatever works for you right
18:05
we can't be coordinated on everything i guess right
18:12
the gang's all here tonight guys so see i missed that last bead so that
18:17
shows you what will happen if you miss it so i'll go back across and make sure i catch that last bead
18:25
you're just giving me a hard time so there we go we got it that time
18:32
all right and through and over the top
18:42
i just found i felt like this was so so awesome because
18:48
the crimps to me when you do the crimps and then the crimp covers with the soft flex that you're able to use with it it
18:56
really gives it a finished look you know it just really looks nice and finished you know
19:04
so i'm picking up a few more beads here to do our fourth row
19:14
again guys you can do this on the baby loom if you don't want to waste your suffix
19:21
which i never do but if you want to make sure to have enough to tie off or to crimp off
19:28
you know if you're like me i always give myself a little bit of extra room and that's why i like to do
19:34
i'll do two earrings on here um and give myself enough
19:40
room that's plenty plenty of room but
19:45
you know play with it on your baby loom too and let me know now i can use pyramids that we got in the box with the
19:51
small wisdom where yes see that deer you certainly can what gauge is a soft
19:58
flex it is the .019 guys
20:08
jewel loom the loom that is in the monthly subscription how big is it could you make earrings on it
20:15
um which which loom the wisdom warrior is that the one you're talking about if you are
20:22
the wisdom warrior and the original are pretty much the same size basically the 12 inches
20:28
it may be the new one we get um in uh okay in this month's box
20:35
yeah that i don't know for size wise um i don't know if amber could get that
20:40
information for you but i'll look it up thank you dear that's my girl
20:47
so again turn on the side here guys you won't have to watch this painful action too much longer because we're
20:53
going to get on to crimping pretty directly all right
21:03
yes it's the medium diameter yes it sure is
21:09
oh for pete's sakes this is why i don't use triangles or
21:16
towels much or pyramids or tiles much on my lives because you know
21:23
all right so there we go with that and across and we're gonna do our
21:33
last row
21:41
we're gonna get a lot in tonight guys so i'm trying to sort of
21:46
do it as quickly as possible i know i look slow but this is believe me this is fast for me
21:55
so we're putting in our last row
22:07
and onto the next
22:21
it's always that last one there we go
22:27
we are through all of them and then we're going to lock in our last
22:33
row here so next what we're going to do guys is we're going to start our
22:38
loops on the outside these are very simple as well i'm just
22:44
going to leave my needle coming out of right where it is and i'm just going to start right from there
22:50
so let me get this in the camera these are just 11 0's these are touhou's uh
22:55
joelong.com and i'm just going to pour some of these out
23:01
and i'm doing seven beads per loop okay you can do your loops it however
23:09
whatever size you like if you want them smaller maybe go five or three if you want them bigger
23:15
i do like to do odd numbers only because it's more pleasant to the eye
23:20
but that's me personally okay so here we are coming out of our last
23:28
row and i'm gonna pick up seven seed beads eleven o's
23:45
okay so amber has answered your question there the new mini loom for august box is the same size as the baby jewelry six
23:53
inches by three inches thank you so much amber okay so i put my seed beads on and i'm just
24:00
gonna drop those down oh thank you she loves my blue bracelet yeah this was just like a little
24:07
i had some extra pyramids from jewels so i just made another bracelet so
24:12
so what we're going to do then guys is we're going to go into the second hole of the same pyramid bead and we're
24:19
going to go across the whole way and we're going to pull our wildfire through there and that's
24:26
going to give us our loop we're going to do the same thing on the other side
24:31
seven beads again
24:37
okay we got four five
24:42
six seven double check two
24:48
four six we need one more and then
24:53
i'm dropping those down and now we're on the right side of the loom which we normally aren't when we're starting to
24:58
stitch but we're going to do it this way because then we can do each section of loops at the same time
25:07
so the same thing we're just going to go in instead of going in the bottom hole we're coming out of the bottom hole so
25:12
we're going to go through the top hole the pyramid beads if you feel like it's tightening up on you most
25:19
of the time the jewelry needle is fine it'll go through no problems but if you do feel like it's tightening
25:25
up on you if you're having any trouble you could just maybe go to like a
25:31
size 10 or 11 um seed bead needle okay it's our little
25:36
loops so now we have to work our way down so we can get to our next row so what we're
25:42
going to do again and this is what i mean if it gets tight on you i'm going to take this that's coming out of that
25:48
top hole there and i'm going to put it through the second hole of the pyramid bead again
25:54
and i'm going to run that through and that's what i like about this green wildfire it blends in with pretty much
26:00
everything it's just really neat how that works so now we've gone through there again
26:07
and that's nice and sung now as i've taken it through that um and then we're gonna go down
26:14
into the first hole of the next set of pyramid beads and run our needle across
26:20
okay we're just working our way down because we always want to make sure that our loops are in the the
26:27
holes of the row that you're working on if i was going to take that
26:33
straight string of wildfire out of there and go right into my pyramid bead with seed beads on it it
26:41
wouldn't look right it would be like another like half loop squished in there so always make sure you're
26:47
on your existing row so now we're going to add seven more
26:53
seed beads this is always the fun part for my
26:59
eyes and these blend in really nice to the mat too
27:04
oh who is facebook user is that suzanne maybe
27:11
thank you for the compliment on the earrings if whoever you are
27:16
so there's two four five six and seven
27:22
and now we're gonna go into the bottom hole in the pyramid bead and go across
27:28
the bottom all right
27:36
oh thank you kristen oh you guys are so sweet
27:42
you're making me blush well i really don't blush but you're making me feel like if i did blush i would blush
27:50
i'm not right you'll learn that quickly kristen
27:56
how can you be right and be a jewelry designer right so there's five six
28:03
seven again and the same thing are you guys able to see this good enough or do you want me to lower
28:09
down oh hi jules um the camera down for you a little bit let me know if you'd like to see a
28:15
little bit of a closer view of this okay
28:22
so we pull that through and then
28:28
we're coming out of this top row of this second row of pyramid beads the top hole
28:34
so we have to go back through the second hole of that bead to be able to get ourselves righted into the row we
28:41
want to be okay lower please okay sure don't get seasick guys i'm gonna lower you down just to
28:48
smidge here and try to be very gentle with it how's that
28:54
hopefully that helps so we're working our way across
29:03
and i'm going into that second set of holes on the on those pyramid beads and putting my needle out through
29:11
oh thank you sarah i appreciate i appreciate that so much i appreciate
29:16
the love so much so now i'm coming out that second hole so we're gonna go into the
29:23
top hole and across of the next row we're in the third row down now
29:30
all right so we're here there we go and we're gonna pick up seven more beads
29:36
i'm gonna get some more out here we're moving around i guess because i came in closer
29:42
hi mariah hi honey so glad you're here to join with us tonight
29:47
and now we're in our perfect spot so we're gonna pick up seven more beads
29:57
five six seven
30:03
okay into the second hole
30:10
okay and then we're coming out the bottom so we're gonna need to go into the top of that same row so we're gonna pick up
30:16
seven seed beads before uh we do that okay so i'm over here
30:23
doing that even though you can't see because of the closeness of the camera
30:28
but did i lose them i did okay so let's pick up seven one two
30:36
three four five six
30:42
and seven all right
30:48
getting wild here guys so once you drop those down you're gonna go in through the top hole of the
30:54
pyramid bead and don't stitch through your seed beads on the side when you're coming out through make sure you're lifting these loops so you're not going
31:01
back through those seed beads okay
31:06
all right so we're coming out we made our loop on the right side we're coming out the top hole of the existing
31:13
row we just finished so what does that mean that means that we have to cross over through the bottom
31:18
hole to get down to our fourth row
31:26
and it can get a little tricky but if you just go slow
31:33
and just work your needle across
31:39
we're picking up girlfriend you're so funny vicky you
31:45
keep me on my toes and then we're going in to the first row
31:50
or the fourth row on the first bead hole of your pyramid and now we're coming out
31:57
on the left again going to do it again this is our next to last row so we're
32:02
going to pick up seven more are we doing on time this one might run
32:07
over smidge i don't know guys it's a lot to show you you're doing great on time thank you
32:15
thanks amber it's so nice to hear you chime in every now and then
32:22
my girl and then in through the second row
32:32
yes jones on vacation guys
32:38
let's add in add on seven more seed beads to our needle these are 11 0's as i stated just
32:46
for anyone that's coming in later six millimeter pyramids and 11 0 seed
32:51
beads so that is five six and seven
32:58
and then we're going to go through and go across that top hole
33:07
okay
33:14
all right and then we're just going to work our way back across
33:19
into that second hole and go across so we can get to our
33:24
last row okay and don't go through your seed beads with your loops
33:31
just like so sorry my hand's in the way when i'm lifting those loops but you get the idea
33:38
there we go and we're almost done with that
33:43
so now we're going to drop down to our last row
33:50
oh everybody's excited if we have we need extra time okay good you're here for the long haul i guess right
33:58
and thanks guys so in through that top hole of that last
34:03
set of beads and again seven more seed beads
34:11
three four five six
34:16
and seven
34:21
and wayne's made it highway
34:30
okay and we're gonna go through that last hole
34:35
that bottom hole of the last row i can get my needle to go through here
34:41
all right and it's through and there's our second to last loop and
34:47
we're coming out the bottom and pick up seven more beads so we can
34:53
make our last loop
35:02
four five six and seven
35:08
now you guys are with me right you're with me so far everybody's doing great
35:14
understanding at the concept before we move on to removing it from
35:21
the loom and adding on the crimps
35:30
so now i'm just gonna tie this off guys now there's a hundred ways you can do this a thousand ways you could do this
35:36
but it's total your preference i have no problem with a teeny tiny wildfire not
35:42
being under here nobody's gonna see it maria's with me thanks maria nobody's
35:47
gonna see it that's my thought on my first tie off so but if you want to put your needle back on and run it back
35:54
through and tie it off in the middle so so be it guys you do you okay so i'm just gonna snug that down and it's
36:00
hidden behind the seed bead anyway so on that knot that doesn't bother me at all i'm just going to turn on the side here
36:07
and i'm just going to make sure that's nice and snug and i'm going to take my thread zapper or if you have uh cord
36:13
cutters or whatever the um wildflower cutters and just go in and
36:20
just heat this up and then zap that right off
36:25
just make a little ball on the end i like to do that so it holds it nice brenda's with me good good
36:31
so our one that is our thread that's sticking out that we used um to sew with with our
36:38
needle what you can do guys and i'll show you so you can go back through row if you
36:44
want to be able to tie off in the middle so i'm just going to pop up one row again
36:50
and i'm going to go through that bead okay that first bead on the bottom
36:56
can you move a little more center you're kind of at the top of the frame honey so
37:01
yeah there you go okay good uh sure um so and i'm just going to come across i'm
37:07
going to come out of this bead yeah i get to beating and then i'm like all over the place you know
37:14
yeah you can just shove it and see me too no one don't know the difference so i'm coming back through that
37:21
and i'm gonna i have my thread now between these two beads you guys can see
37:27
i know it's hard with the colors and the lighting and stuff but it's coming out between these two beads right here
37:34
okay and then all we're gonna do is take our needle and go under the soft flex
37:40
and then back up and not grab your loop with your thread
37:48
and then pull that and go through your loop like you do when you're finishing when you're just sewing a project
37:55
even just with material and you're going to snug that knot down and you're going to bring it in between
38:02
those two pyramid beads and i'm gonna do it one more time just to make sure
38:09
must always be centered yes i guess so vicky
38:15
all right so i pulled two knots there and what i like to do guys is i just feed my needle back down
38:22
beside the soft flex there and pull it down and then give a little snug pull there
38:29
and it drops that needle behind or that excuse me it drops out not behind the earring there okay
38:36
you can't even see any of it so two different ways you can roll there
38:42
depends on my mood but that's a good way to tie off
38:47
so now i'm not going to make another earring because i want to get to a couple more things so i will just have
38:52
to make sure i use the rest of my soft flex for some good things so i'm going to raise this back up
38:58
sorry i don't want to make anybody seasick but i want you to be able to see
39:04
so it's as simple as just cutting the ends
39:10
of your soft flex and you want to make sure when you're cutting anything off your loom that you're supporting your work
39:16
with your two fingers here like so and then i hold my loom with my thumb
39:22
and i have this end pushed into my belly if you want to see that
39:28
okay and i'm just going to flex it slightly and i'm still holding my work with my
39:34
front two fingers and i'm holding my loom with my uh index and my thumb and i'm just going
39:41
to start snipping the soft flex these are very old clippers so i might just grab my other
39:48
ones yes let's there's better ones
39:55
and you're just going to snip that and you see how it like wants to bounce back on you that's totally normal because we
40:00
wanted that tension on when we were creating okay
40:05
and the same thing here i'm just going to snip off my soft flex
40:12
makes it so lovely and now we're going to get our crimps out guys
40:19
so what i've learned with making this project
40:24
is that the two the size two um crimp tubes which is what my favorite
40:30
is these ones are from beadalon but um they were good
40:35
um you have to struggle just a slight bit to get a third strand through them but you can
40:40
do it and you'll understand that more in a minute
40:46
okay so bring our little mat over here and i'm just gonna dump
40:52
out a few um crimp tubes number two crimp tubes
40:59
there you go vicky threads it right back through so there's tons of ways to do
41:04
your finish with your knots so first thing i like to do is i want to
41:10
take two of my pieces of soft flex sticking out from the top and i want to cut them
41:16
about the same length we're going to be cutting more off but for right now it'll make my life easier when i'm putting the
41:21
crimp tube on so i'm going to take two strands and i'm going to
41:26
run this two strands up through the crimp tube and then i'm going to drop that
41:32
down okay and you can see well i don't know how how well you can see it but there's
41:41
room between each i left some breathing space basically is
41:47
what i'm trying to tell you so you're going to want to leave a little bit of breathing room there because you don't want your earring to warp
41:54
to get like funny shape and pull up on itself so we're just going to drop that down
42:00
and i'm just going to take my crimp pliers can you use silver beading wire if you
42:06
don't have soft flux you probably could you probably could i don't see why not but
42:11
why don't you have any flex no i'm just kidding you but yes you i'm
42:16
sure you could use that so i'm just going to drop this down where it was and i'm going to
42:23
move this up further here for you to see and just give that a crimp like we normally will grip our soft flex
42:29
okay so i gave that a good crimp you can see
42:36
and then i like to just go in and fold the clip in half
42:41
it just compacts it down a little bit and then makes the crimp cover go over it so you can see that's what we have so
42:47
far now keep in mind guys this you can still kind of move around a little bit because you have these two threads down
42:53
here on the bottom so when you when you go to finish off the bottom the same way
43:00
just you can get things better aligned at the time
43:06
so same thing here we're pretty good for length so i'm going to drop that down
43:13
i'm going to cut that just a little bit because it's kind of rough on that end
43:22
yes well you will like it if you are able to get it sabrina
43:32
when i was first beading i used to use whatever i could get my hands on and then as i've grown as a beader
43:39
i've learned that if you're going to do strong pieces or anything like that that the soft flex
43:46
just gives it a completely different appearance it just hangs differently that's just my
43:53
opinion but one person so i'm doing the same thing here guys
43:58
i'm moving my crimp down i'm just going to pick that up
44:06
and use my crimpers and i want them about in the same place but like i said you can adjust them
44:13
okay and then just give that a crimp
44:19
and what i'm trying to do when i'm doing that guys i'm trying to keep everything as even as possible
44:25
okay and then i'm just gonna give it a squeeze to fold it in half
44:31
so there are two of our crimps done so now that
44:37
we have those in place what i do is i cut off these are crimped
44:42
these are good to go so i can trim off two of these wires
44:47
and i'm just going to hold down on that and cut that as close to the crimp as i can
44:54
get it okay and now we have one wire sticking out
44:59
again this was something that used to scare me but you know if you have a good product
45:08
if you are biasera but if you have a good product your crimp's going to hold onto that okay
45:16
so now what we're gonna do i'm losing my voice i'm talking too much um now what we're gonna do guys is even
45:22
off these two strands and we're going to
45:28
put another crimp tube on i'm not using the magic crimpers
45:33
although i'd really like to try them um these are actually the anterior crimpers that i have here
45:40
um so i'm gonna put that crimp down
45:46
on those two strands just so things are kind of nice and even
45:52
i don't want to pull anything too far up there and then once we have those two strands
45:58
in this is where it gets a little bit tricky you're just going to take one of those strands and you're going to feed it back
46:05
through that crimp because here what i did and you don't have to do that you can do two two crimps but if you want it
46:12
to look really nice like it does on the bottom here with just three this is what you'll have to do okay
46:19
so i'm just going to feed that through
46:25
and i said it gives you a little bit of a little bit of a fit sometimes but
46:30
if you don't want to have trouble maybe go up to like a three from tube or something
46:37
but it's going through it's going through just fine hey friends so jules has uh joined in on
46:44
um screen yard would you like me to add her to the video that's up to jules if she wants up or
46:50
not that's her choice i'm happy i'm happy if she comes and joins me you know that yet
46:56
gee my girl so i'm just going to make a tiny loop
47:01
here at the top because i don't want it to be too overbearing when i put my earring hook through that okay so i'm
47:08
just working that down with those three loops in there and again i'm just trying to keep this
47:15
as even as possible we really have to be careful on our bottom because then we're kind of finishing off
47:22
everything and doing that final shape of the piece okay
47:28
so i'm gonna get that as even as i can
47:33
and then just give it a little crimp i want that loop just a smidge smaller
47:38
and give that a crimp
47:44
all right so now that that's crimped
47:50
let's giving me a little bit of a headache there but we'll leave it at that
47:56
and then we're just going to trim off those cords okay
48:03
crimped we're ready to roll on the top now we're going to go through the same process
48:09
on the bottom all right so you see what shape we have there guys and again we're going to even
48:14
this all out as we go down here keep everything centered you know just really get a nice
48:21
visual on that okay so same thing on the bottom we're going to
48:26
cut these strands these two strands that are on the end here on this left side
48:32
together
48:37
okay and i'm gonna cut some of this off although i'll probably be using all this
48:42
leftover soft flecks on earrings more earrings i'm sure and then i'm just
48:48
putting my crimp on
48:55
all right and as i'm working this up guys keep in mind these are all connected so we want to get a nice look
49:01
we want it to look nice and even everything sort of looks looks like it was meant to be there like
49:08
that i'm looking at the top because this is going to matter on how your top
49:14
looks how you pull these strands on the bottom okay so
49:20
i'm just gonna give that a crimp
49:26
when i get it in place all right
49:31
and then fold that over yes the leftovers do make wonderful
49:36
earrings okay so we have that one crimped and we're gonna do the same thing on the other
49:42
side we'll go over quickly i'll put one of the crimp covers on for you guys but i
49:48
really want to get to this tassel so i'll show you that after we get this last crimp on
49:55
there's two more crimps but um because like i said i really want to get to this tassel maker
50:02
it's adorable
50:07
all right same thing cutting in the same length put my tube on it's so cool how
50:14
we can use uh crimps with the jewelry now
50:22
okay i'm totally tripping out [Music]
50:27
because you're doing things that have never been done really with the jewel loom and i'm just
50:33
sitting here like freaking my freak out in happiness
50:40
i mean seriously it's pretty stinking cool i'm and hello soft flex team
50:45
yes thank you for joining us guys i'm beyond grateful that you are here
50:51
truly yes it's extremely exciting sarah we'll have to chat
50:58
but these are so so sassy and my mind now is like just
51:04
swirling no i'm like seriously sitting here vibrating in my seat like i'm so taken out i'm just thinking of like
51:11
because there's some things coming up um with some projects and i'm like oh my gosh oh my gosh so i yeah
51:17
i hope there's a whole new world doesn't it yes yeah mama needs some soft flex
51:25
get some of those pretty colors yeah i'm tripping out what's going on there
51:30
so awesome tools yeah um mute something oh i gotta mute
51:37
something you're echoing amber but jules isn't oh
51:44
i don't know why okay i think i know why hold on so i'm gonna go back to the
51:49
main screen here so there we go so you guys can see what's happening
51:57
and then will this work will this work um on the wood looms will soft flex work on the
52:03
wall i don't see why not because it has this great covering over the outside
52:08
really soft so there's no reason huh
52:13
yeah i mean any soft flex would work nicole
52:20
just your preference does that help yes that does help yes thank you you
52:27
were echoing there i i at the end there so as i'm pulling this and i want to show you guys something
52:34
when i'm pulling on this watch what happens when i touch the harness when i pull too hard you see that shape that shape
52:40
you don't want that i don't want that so when you're putting when you're writing your last crimp arm don't put
52:47
too much tension just put it in a comfortable spot and then take your and then take your
52:54
one of your strands there and run it back through your crimp so you can make a little loopy on the
53:00
bottom okay just running that back through
53:07
all right again not tensioning up too much getting
53:14
everything as even as i can and we don't want to leave a gargantuan loop on the end it's a little snug
53:19
because that's making my earring kind of pucker so we'll move that down a little bit that's just a little bit of
53:26
just like when you're crimping a necklace guys it takes a little bit of doing to get everything where you want it and
53:33
with the proper tension on your beads everything okay i just want to center this make my loop
53:40
a little smaller and then crimp crimp my crimp
53:49
all right yeah the .019 sarah says has the most
53:55
colors guys so that's good to know it has my beautiful pink and turquoise
54:03
so then we're just going to trim this now you could use anything to dangle off
54:10
the bottom of your earring of course beads charms uh tassels whatever makes your heart
54:16
sing but i do want to show you guys these because this would be an absolutely
54:22
adorable addition to any earring but especially this one we have so many wood charms that jules
54:30
has graciously made for everyone and just look at these beauties i mean you could
54:36
color them and just make them so so gorgeous they're just perfect the
54:41
way they are they're beautiful the way they are but you could add a little heart on the bottom you could do any of
54:47
those things these are just so cute look at the flowers i'm just trying to flip these over so you can see them guys but
54:54
look how cute these are we even had some for st patty's day if you know someone that's irish this would
55:00
be a great gift for them make them a pair of irish earrings we have little rainbows this beautiful cross
55:08
so the sky's the limit guys and you know how fun it is to paint your your wood pieces
55:13
so that is also an option so just quickly i need to grab my washi tape
55:19
because i don't think i had any over here just one second
55:28
trisha muted me or i mean amber muted me
55:34
trisha i can't even with these earrings they're so i need them well good i'm glad you like them yeah i
55:41
totally and you know what when we see each other so i'm coming to beadfest you all i don't know if anybody's gonna be
55:47
there and that's watching but i booked my ticket and i'm coming to bead fest
55:52
so here's my lashes i only have like 500 rolls of washi and
55:59
i can't find them when i want them you know that's how that goes
56:04
so i made these char these uh tassels on on these earrings with leather and just
56:10
some 20 gauge wire okay so if you want to use leather go for it tonight we're
56:15
gonna play around with um a little bit of hem because why not
56:22
right right so what i'm gonna do here i'm just gonna cut myself a little piece of string
56:28
first that i want to keep to the side then what i found that works best for me
56:34
is i take a little bit of washi tape you could probably even use masking tape or
56:40
scotch tape whatever you have there but while she's nice because you can remove it and it won't do any damage to your
56:46
wood piece okay we don't want damage so i'm just gonna take the end of this
56:52
hem and i'm gonna lay it down the back of the tassel maker
56:59
and just washi tape that right on and i'm going to try to center it so it doesn't get in my way too much okay so
57:05
now that's on there and all you have to do at this point guys is decide how thick do i want my tassel
57:10
so we're just gonna wrap until we're happy okay with the size of the tassel and it's
57:17
just right next to each other you're not paddling them on you could if you want a very very full tassel you could just go
57:24
until the cows come home okay that's your choice but we have a small earring here so we'll try to be somewhat
57:31
reasonable because we all know that's hard for me
57:36
painters tape is nice too yes that is very true maria all right so i'm just doing a few wraps
57:45
okay and just that simple so what then i do is i bring it around
57:50
the back here in about the same spot and i cut that off
57:56
and i take myself another tiny piece of washi this is just my technique whatever works for you guys but i like my little
58:03
washi so then i have all of my strands wrapped around there
58:10
so i'm going to go in with my string i already cut you can do this with the wire right out of the gate if you want
58:15
but i add my wire after okay and i'm just lifting up all those little wraps
58:20
that we made and i'm sliding one of my pieces of hem underneath there
58:26
in the center and i'm going to tie it on just to keep all my stuff together as i
58:34
wire wrap it and work on it okay i'm just gonna do two knots
58:43
oh that's wonderful sarah they have the handmade tassel make maker challenge
58:49
so i'm just gonna take my washi tape off pull that out and you can see how easily
58:55
that came off and then i'm just gonna snip this right in the middle guys
59:01
these make gorgeous lengths of tassels you can cut them down as i did for the earrings
59:08
um and i'm just making sure i'm getting all my strands there where you can leave them beautifully
59:15
long too so here's our hip and this doesn't look like much right now but guess what
59:21
we're going to shape that just down like so and we're just going to kind of
59:26
force it to go into the shape that we want another tip guys if you have hemp that you know is kind of won't
59:33
straighten just by your warmth of your hand or the oils in your hand you can use a steamer just to put a little bit
59:39
of steam on them right there you go so now i'm just going to take a little piece
59:45
of 20 gauge wire not too small
59:50
this i'm probably going to cut myself about 12 inches who are we trying to get here
59:57
so i cut the 12 inches and i'm just warming that wire up guys you can see okay i hope so
1:00:05
and i'm going to go about two or three inches down from the top of my wire there and i'm going to get out
1:00:12
my favorite pliers because when i work with wire i have certain certain babies i like to use
1:00:19
so we're going to take our little tweezer plier in here and we're going to wrap
1:00:25
or excuse me make a horizontal bend we're going to put in our round nose
1:00:31
pliers and we're going to make the loop just as big as we want by just determining on our plier where we want
1:00:36
to put this wire so i'm going to go about a third of the way in there okay
1:00:42
then i'm going to go up and over for wrap loop and then go across we're
1:00:47
not going to wrap just yet though guys because i want to use this opportunity to attach my
1:00:53
um wire to my hip so i'm just going to cut these strands short of these hems
1:01:00
of the hemp that i tied off with and i'm going to open this loop now you want to make sure of course that your
1:01:06
loop is big enough to go around the product that you've chosen so if you're using leather you're probably going to
1:01:11
want to make a bigger loop but i think this will work fine with our hem
1:01:16
hopefully it will anyway and i'm just working that down in between that loop that we made if you
1:01:22
need to open up a little bit more you always can and now your tassel is on your wire
1:01:30
and what we're going to do now is just do a wrap loop we're just going to finish that by grabbing that wire
1:01:36
with our tool and wrapping around a few times just to get a secure
1:01:43
spot okay so now everything's hooked and yeah it looks looking good but we
1:01:49
still have some more work here so we're going to trim off this extra piece of wire on the side here
1:01:56
and i'm just going to push that end in because we don't want it scratching anybody
1:02:01
and then we're going to go up here above this wrap and we're going to do another horizontal
1:02:08
bend and we're going to grab that with our
1:02:14
round nose pliers just the same way and we're going to go up and over
1:02:21
and we're going to rotate our pliers and then across okay so now we're going to start our wrap
1:02:27
loop we don't need to hook it into anything we don't need to open it up we can just grab our loop with our
1:02:33
pliers and begin to wrap our way down okay
1:02:40
just wrapping down piling our loops on top of each other as we go down
1:02:48
get out the camera there and as i'm going i'm just working my way
1:02:53
down around that original loop that we made okay
1:02:59
just working working making sure i'm getting them next to
1:03:04
each other as i go again next to each other and see how i'm
1:03:11
working down there and it's starting to form a bead cap you're making your own bead cap by
1:03:17
working down the wire like so all right
1:03:23
so we don't want it too off along because we're putting it on a a little earring we're gonna have to snip off you
1:03:28
know some of this anyway if you want to make it even longer if you want to use
1:03:35
the full length of the tassel make it even longer you certainly can and then all you're going to want to make sure
1:03:40
and do guys is just cut your wire there and tuck it in as we
1:03:45
always do to make sure and then we're going to trim our tassel to the size we want it
1:03:52
just as simple as that so i'm just going to look here and say well for my earring that i made that is
1:03:58
buried now there it is i think i'm gonna do
1:04:04
i'm gonna go for it i'm gonna make a little bit longer of one
1:04:09
excuse me and i'm just going to trim those ends and try not to
1:04:15
brutalize them too bad since i didn't bring my scissors over all right
1:04:21
just working across and trimming tremendous now jules i do believe these tassel
1:04:28
makers are in the shop correct joel
1:04:34
um so the tassel maker is a part of the september
1:04:40
workshop kit so people who are in that will get that they won't have to buy it
1:04:46
not by the kit um but between now and then
1:04:51
uh yes i'm putting them in the shop they didn't make it okay awesome i wasn't sure about that so
1:04:58
i didn't know yeah i'm i'm trying to get some details
1:05:05
i'm still on the saw i'm over here on the soft flex like trying to
1:05:10
to uh yeah yep
1:05:18
so i'm just gonna take a little jump ring here guys
1:05:23
hook it into my tassel and then hook it through my soft flex
1:05:30
and then close my jump ring it's as simple as that i was i i was sorry um
1:05:38
sarah just made a comment that she thought she thinks you can make tassels with the soft flex and i was just sitting here like my gosh i bet you
1:05:45
could yeah why didn't he get that yeah
1:05:50
so anyway sorry so guys then you're going to want to put your crimp covers over if you're you're like me and you
1:05:57
like those i can show you how to do one here and then we'll we'll get signed off because we're running over use a hair
1:06:03
straightener on your tassels that's also a great option
1:06:09
so let's put our wire on like so
1:06:18
and then we'll do one crimp cover i used to loathe doing crimp covers and then my friend jeannie showed me how to do it
1:06:26
correctly and she uses them all the time and i'm like how can you get those to not look like they're worked
1:06:31
that was like my problem all the time they always looked worked so we're just going to take one of these and i'll show you
1:06:38
the way i do it in case there's someone here that hasn't used a crimp cover
1:06:44
which is a possibility so i do like these crimpers for that but i'm sure there are plenty of others out
1:06:50
there that would work perfectly fine for this so i just take it in my pliers like so
1:06:56
it's a little c shape and i didn't attach i didn't attach my uh ear wire very well
1:07:04
there and i just work it around i'm holding it snug with my pliers and i'm just working it around
1:07:11
that crimp by moving it back and forth okay so now it's around the crimp and i'm just gonna
1:07:17
slowly start closing this and i'm gonna work my way around it that's the trick on
1:07:22
closing a nice doing a nice crimp cover is not going full force when you first do
1:07:30
it you just have to sort of work it from all the sides and just slowly crimp
1:07:38
it in there so it ends up looking like a bead versus
1:07:43
a terrible c-shaped thing that no one recognizes so we'll just put that there
1:07:51
and just like i said guys i'm just working slowly around it i want to give it a nice shape
1:07:57
just like so all right that's not perfect but you get the idea on that it just looks like a
1:08:04
nice little bead to finish and you can do that over all of your crimps that you did on these pieces
1:08:10
so it looks really nice and finished so so i'm going to turn my camera back up
1:08:16
here because that is the end of our lesson for today let me close this so i don't make you see sick
1:08:24
thanks jules i appreciate it thank you seriously girlfriend
1:08:31
well as i said i don't want to take your credit for the idea oh there you go um the soft flex idea was suggested by one
1:08:38
of our girls yeah but i still ran with it so
1:08:45
i'm speechless like i don't i'm not you know that's not my mo right i usually have something to say
1:08:50
so i'm just totally tripping out i cannot believe you know like just my mind is racing
1:08:58
with ideas so i can't wait to get a hold of some personally so that i
1:09:04
can play with it but such beautiful such a beautiful design
1:09:10
and thank you uh gosh just everything it's just like i feel
1:09:16
like i'm i can't find my words because as an artist innovator designer right
1:09:22
now it's like things are like this i'm just saying it's like saw like soft flex right and then like i s i just feel it i
1:09:28
