hey guys hi guys welcome into julian school live
it's trish tonight just me by myself um which will be quite entertaining as
always uh today we're gonna make a super fun bangle bracelet completely out of wire
which i think will be super fun um this week not a whole lot going on
i've been of course beating every day that's pretty much the life
but um i've been staying busy working on my business i'm
trying to completely redo my etsy shop and things like that so that's always a
job hi zach hi maria joanne hi amber amber's going to help
out in the comments tonight as well as joan so we're very fortunate for both of them to be there
so i'm going to give you guys a little bit of time to come on in before we get started hi sandy
hi b beads express sherry
melanie's here ilena's here hi everybody
so good to see you i love it when you come in and say hello makes my date
so as i said the project we're going to do tonight is wire
i am going to use just to kind of go over stuff with you i'm going to use the original loom now
i'm going to say this again but i'm going to say this right off the top here i am using
um 18 gauge wire it's artistic wire but i'm using 18
gauge wire on my original loop okay so keeping that in mind guys if you have
not worked with wire a lot or you're newbie to the loom or either or
you can absolutely do a 20 gauge or 22 gauge for this
to start out if you want to go up from there once you get the hang of it and make sure you're not gonna break your loom by
you know cranking down on it too hard then you know that's the way to go
for me personally i've been working with wire for uh 15 years it's like my other love
so i thought let's try the artistic wire which is a softer wire than german wire
okay it is a cop the um artistic wire is made of aluminum and
the german cell wire is made of copper base they have a copper base in them so it's
a little bit harder than your artistic wire okay
so if you want to start out if you're um an advanced
uh beater loomer wire worker you know you can use your german style
or if you want to um use your 18 gauge it's fine but
please keep in mind a good place to start is 20 or 22 as
well so we have some more people coming in there's jones saying hi and
everybody's saying hi hi guys so excited so excited to be here tonight
so i'm going to start here i'm going to turn my camera down it looks like we're getting some folks in so i'm just going
to turn this black momentarily guys because i don't want to make anybody see sick hi tina
um so i have not gone anywhere i'm just adjusting my camera okay be right back
okay get the lights where i need them
that's pretty good so this is the project we're going to be
working on uh tonight guys this is a wire banger bangle
bracelet it is again made with the 18 gauge wire it's made with i have used 22 gauge to
wrap this i need to get this to not be blurry for you i have used the 22 gauge wire to wrap
this is a textured wire twisted wire um to do the wraps with the gem cuts these
are the nine by six gem cuts and the six millimeter fire polish and you can see on this um example that i
made you're kind of have beads on the bottom and beads on
the top so you can choose when you're making this if you want your gem cuts to be up or
your fire polish to be up so it's up to you i like the way
that the gem cuts look underneath that's just me personally but you can do it any way you
like and then the other things we're going to need of course guys is our original loom
18 gauge wire or 20 or 22 gauge thank you melanie
and then you can wrap with your 22 24 you could even if you're
advanced you could do 20 with your 18 gauge again we're going to go tonight and we're
going to still do the 18 we're going to be very very careful and ginger
with our loom using the 18 gauge and then i'm going to use 24 gauge to
wrap and these are both artistic wire as i said they're softer wire than the german style
okay as far as what else we're going to need of course we're going to need our gem cuts and our gorgeous fire polish
we're going to need um this is a bent chain nose but even just a regular chain nose
i have some tweezer pliers here these are not required you can use your chain nose in place of these i just prefer
working with wire with these thank you maria and then i have a flush cutter here of
course to cut our wire and then this is going to be optional guys but i
have a chasing hammer here if you don't have a chasing camera and you have a rubber mallet
that would work just as well and that is to do our ends see how those are hammered
and it just kind of gives it a really nice finished look i think you know and this
is using only one of the wires coming out tonight we're going to do we're going to take the one off the loom that
i've started and we're gonna use both wires to create the ends for that so
um so we need our hammers and of course i have a bench block here again this stuff's all optional you don't have to
hammer the ends and then i have a bracelet blank or you know just
something this is just a wooden one it's not real expensive but it just makes it nice to curve your
bracelet around and just get it to shape the way you like if you don't have one of these you can use your arm
that works too i want to give you a little tip with your
with your uh lock here i have seen where they have the rubber bases for these
um i've never bought one guys but this does make a lot of noise if you don't put
padding under it so i went to the dollar tree and i bought two
pot holders and then i just put a piece of felt in the center of it
and that's my base for my block okay so just a little tip there a couple
bucks and you got a good padding there for you
all right so whoops that's not good sorry guys i hit the
i hit the wrong thing there and get back
not sure what's going on here guys on my computer just get bear with me
what in the world did i press [Music]
okay i'm still there guys if you can still hear me i cannot see i'm sure you can but i am
hit something on my computer that i can't get back in
so there we go back in sorry about that guys
that is computer illiteracy for you so now i can see what the camera sees so anyway
what we're going to start by doing is of course putting our rod into our loom
and we're going to put our loom against our belly my belly's down here
guys and this is always how we're going to do it let me move this just a smidge so you can see
and i'm going to put the rod into the bottom give just a little flex remember that
got this and this is especially especially important tonight these are flexible not bendable okay your your
original looms so there's our bar i have that in we're ready to
put our wire on now i decided to go with a simple
design tonight i'm gonna do one you know one lane here we're gonna do
you know just two warps you can expand on this if the one you
make you want to make it two or three rows wide absolutely you could this is just the
basic band bangle cuff okay so here i'm going to take my 18 gauge
artistic wire and i'm going to leave it on the roll as i'm doing this
and i'm just going to put my wire against the um knob here
and i'm just going to wrap it around just like so
you don't have to do twice but you can do it twice if it makes you feel good
okay so of course just like we do we're gonna we're gonna do this the same exact way
that we do when we're putting hemp or leather or
um wildfire on we're gonna find our groove
okay and we're going to flip it over here
we're going to flip our loom over and we're going to go straight across and we're not pulling too hard we're just
kind of just giving it a little bit of tension okay
because it's not imperative with wire that that popped off the end let me put that back
that you keep a massive amount of tension when you're doing this so keep that in mind guys and be good to your looms
okay so now i'm coming down here i'm gonna go approximately the same place
gonna turn it over and wrap it around my knob and i'm gonna come up around the
front and we're gonna need four spaces four grooves wide
for our let me get this exactly where i want it for our gem cuts and our
um there we go fire polish to fit in correctly so we're just gonna do four wide so i'm just
gonna count here one two three four
and then pull it across like so
and do one two three four and then into the next one
sorry one two three four okay got it and then we're just going to turn it
around and grab the knob again and wrap it
once it's fine now keep in mind guys you don't have to leave a bunch at the end
here we can just cut it because we're going to be using the wire that's here to make our ends we're not going to be
using any of this excess here okay of course just kind of like we do when we loom
okay so i'm just going to cut that with my flush cutters and now that roll we can say bye bye to
and i just want to make sure because sometimes wire will pop around on your loom a little bit and that's just
natural for it to do that the way that this is made so what i do then is once i kind of get
it where i want it i make sure it's exactly in my grooves that i want
and there's a trick once you get this where you want it your wire so there's one two three one two
three four you can turn this over guys and again we're not going to be yanking and
cranking down okay i can't say that enough i'm just gonna take
my plier here my tweezer plier and i'm just gonna give this a little twist and that just tightens it up you're not
gonna like tighten it tighten it down you're not gonna do that you're just gonna give it a little
twist so then it pops down into your groove for you better okay
so we're still good here i just double check because you can it'll pop out easily
and we're right here so i'm just going to give myself just a little twist and see just when i did that it
popped so we're going to push down here a little bit to keep it one two
remember you're the boss guys of the wire that was something that took me a while to learn that you know what you
can make wire do what you wanted to do in general okay so i'm just pushing this down back
here and that's going to keep it more so in there and then i'm just going to give it a little
tweak okay just a little tweak just to kind of keep everything where i want it
and then i'm going to go across now don't worry about your weeble wobbly
warps right now guys you're just getting everything where you want it in your grooves
all right so as we go across here i'm going to make sure
i have this where i want it before i kind of give it a little push down
so make sure it grooves and especially with your 18 gauge it can
pop around quite a bit for you because it's a little bigger than
our grooves in our loom okay
and just kind of position push your wire
okay so i have them both where i want them there and i'm pushing
this edge down here just to make sure it's snug against my back and then i'm just gonna do the same
thing i'm just gonna give it a little tweak just to kind of make sure it stays where
i put it so when i take the bar out okay so you can see that wasn't much of
a bend guys that's just enough to keep it in those lines
so now what you can do you can take your bar out so you're going to give a little push on your
belly and then lift out your bar
oh i forgot one thing i forgot my um nylon jaw pliers i'll be right back let
me grab that and then i see a couple questions here i'm gonna answer too
so as usual with your wire you're always going to want to make sure you have your nylon jaw pliers
so what i do is once i have my bar out i'll just take my nylon jaw pliers and
just kind of go down the wires again not too aggressively
and that just kind of straightens it out really nice for you and the same thing on the other side
just straighten it out go down the wire making sure you have everything where
so now let's look at some questions here
do you try this on one of the birch wood looms no don't do that
don't use wire on your birch wood looms ever because the reason is guys this wire can
dig in and you don't want it marring your birch wood loom you want to keep it beautiful
you don't want to have mars in it uh so no do not use that always use your
original can 20 gauge be used absolutely 20 gauge can be used um as i said at the
beginning and like i said i was going to go over again guys you can use this is 18 gauge if you're an advanced loomer
and wire worker 18 will work for for you fine but i would recommend if you're just
starting out or if you prefer it use a 20 gauge or a 22 gauge whatever you're
comfortable with sometimes folks have heard a hard time with their hands working with heavier
gauges of wire so this we will have to
bend into shape a little bit at the end so if that's a problem absolutely 20 gauge 22 gauge
anything like that works great so now what we're going to do here i'm
going to get this bar and all these tools out of my way so i don't catch them with my wire
now and again guys i'm using artistic wire you you know whatever you prefer you can
use but i do recommend the artistic wire because of its flexibility especially if
you're new okay so another thing i can tell you guys
before we get started putting beads on in this um
oh they left me wow that was like a senior moment right
on camera [Music] so anyway what we'll do with our 26
gauge wire here is the trick to this is not pulling off too
much wire it's going to be a huge pain if you
do like a wingspan or a wingspan and a half usually what i'll take is
oh you know spread my arm out and from one of my arms to the middle of my chest that's how much wire i take for this and
it's always plenty so if you have a shorter arm you can do a little bit more but that is all i do
here and once i cut it i'll give you a little measurement because i do have my measure here
that might be a little easier so let's see my piece of wire i cut
is about 32 inches so if that gives you an idea
so we're going to start as we always start on the left-hand side
i'm going to leave a little bit of a tail here on my wire because the reason you want to leave a towel on your wire
it gives you a little bit of leverage when you're working with your wire when you're first
casting on to your ward okay anytime you're working with wire
wrapping or anything like that leave yourself a towel you'll thank me later so
i'm just gonna move up here a little bit maybe a little past my little dot there it's usually where i like to start
and i'm holding on to the 18 gauge wire and i'm gonna start taking and this
again is the 24 gauge and i'm going to push it around
like so and the first one is always the most difficult the first loop the first three
loops and then i'm going to push it up through the middle when you're working with wire guys
another trick always try to push up through the middle if you take your end and you feed it up
through here there is a very good chance you're going to get a knot when you bring the middle one through
first there's a lot less chance so the next thing i'm going to do is i'm going to do the same exact thing
bring it around the side push it up through the middle
like so i know this is hard to see because it's fine water but hopefully once we get going
it'll be a little easier so i'm going to do that one more time and on that third one i'm not going to
bring it back up through the middle i'm going to pull my wire and i'm going to bring it underneath
like so okay and then as i'm working i keep my tweezer pliers by me and i just
will kind of bring my rings together tighten up pull everything snug
as i go because that makes it a lot easier in the end you're not going back and you're then your spacing's off
so just make sure you kind of keep up with your little loops and know where you want it as you work
so now that we're underneath here guys we have our beautiful beads make sure they're in the picture here
and i'm going to start out with one of our gem cuts and i figured i'd work with this darker
color so you could see it a lot better
so i'm just going to put that on the end of my wire and i'm just sliding it down like so
and i'm pushing my gem cut up through the center
and now we're going to do the same exact thing on the other side but we're going to end up on top so i'm taking
my wire pushing it down through in a loop like so
and then pulling it through there's one and just snug on that just a
hair again take your thumb put a little bend in it push it down through the middle
put that end out of there and bring it around
we have two if you want more of a scalloped edge guys you could do
um for more of a interesting edge not scallops i guess um you could do more
wraps that's totally your call but we're doing three today so on the this is our
third wrap here because we did two and i'm gonna get this meeting up here
the way i want it and as i'm coming around on the top
we're gonna put our fire polish on okay so again i'm just gonna take my fire
polish and put it on the end of my wire and drop that down
and it's going to lay across the top okay just like so
i hope these colors are good enough for you guys to see but um
so that's going to lay across the top then so we're going to proceed to do the same thing guys
we're going to take our wire we're going to use our finger our thumb and push it up through the center
okay and you'll see um sometimes it does a little bit of an angle for you if you
don't like that angle you can always kind of go back and kind of play with the wire and just like pop it up a little bit so
it's more straight straight across rather than at an angle
but that's totally your call guys whatever you like so we've gone around that's our second loop
and on our third one we're gonna push through bring it around
and there we go and again i'm just going to double check here and make sure that everything's
where i want it my loops look pretty good but i'll give them a little squeeze and then this is going to go underneath
this is a very very simple technique and you can absolutely build on it
there are lots of variations i know you guys could come up with and just make this gorgeous
so i'm getting a gem cut now because we're underneath the bottom is always going to be the gem cut in my bracelet
in your bracelet it may be the top bead but that's what we're doing tonight so again you can see i'm pushing that up
between there and i'm holding it with my finger and make sure it's in a good position
and then we're going to start wrapping
i'd like to give you guys a basic concept and then let you run with it that's like
my favorite thing to do i want to see what you guys can come up with
color combinations designs things like that it just tickles me
so we've got two there and then this is going to be our third one
you can see it'll be three loops on the side there so we want to make sure our loops are
where we want them and we're going across the top so what does that mean
that means a fire polish because we're on the top
okay i'm putting another one of those on do we have any questions so far guys hi
kelly hi carmen we got lots of fun girls here tonight
for sure so i just like that across the top guys and we're gonna do the same thing
the trick with your wire is just keep it nice and snug if you get out here with it and you're
trying to maneuver you're gonna get a kink or you're gonna get it messed up one one way or another
the tighter you can keep this wrapping wire close and work closely with it the better off
you're gonna be just kind of ignore that outside wire until you're ready to put a bead on to
be truth with you if you do you understand what i'm saying guys
basic concept chocolate chips and cookies are good okay thank you
so there we've got so we are counting when we go across
the one time as one of our loops and then we're doing the second pushing up through for the third
i hope that makes sense guys let me know if it doesn't for sure so
i'm checking my my stack of loops
just give that a little tweak
okay and that's what we have so far guys get the
camera to focus on the proper thing here there we go
so that gives you the idea with the loops on the side and it does give it a really elegant look
i really like it so let's do another gem cut
it makes sense maria says okay no thread i haven't tried this yeah melanie it's
it's um i'm gonna be exploring wire a lot more um amber and i were talking the
other day whoops see if you don't pay attention you're gonna put it over the top but we're putting our gem cut up from the bottom
